Investor and philanthropist Bill Miller has given an archive of rare photographic plates by Edward S. Curtis to the University of Pennsylvania Libraries in Philadelphia, reports Art News. The gift includes 151 glass plates that derive from Curtis’ three-decade long effort to photograph more than eighty Native American tribes across the U.S. The plates were used by Curtis as part of a photogravure process for his 20-volume project “The North American Indian.” Read the full Story >>

That, notes NPR, is the question Ella Morton seeks to answer with her project "The Dissolving Landscape," a series of experimental analog photographs and short films that examine climate change in the Arctic and Subarctic landscapes of Canada and Nordic Europe. The United States Copyright Office is set to make changes to how it handles small claims which, among other adjustments, cap monetary damages and require a fee to have a case heard. The Professional Photographers of America (PPA) argues this will hurt photographers. The changes, meant to make it easier and faster for claimants to enforce their copyrights, would have cases heard by a three-judge panel within the Copyright Office, rather than in federal courts. The PPA has published a statement that takes issue with one part of the changes: a required flat fee of $100 for the CBB to hear a case. PetaPixel has the story. Read the full Story >>
