DART Readers in the News

By Peggy Roalf   Wednesday February 12, 2014

This year marks the centenary of the First World War. To commemorate this milestone, a history festival, Europe 14/14, will take place this spring at the History Campus Berlin, from May 7-11 2014.

Among its initiatives is an international poster competition sponsored by the German Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb.de), with the winner decided by a popular vote.

DART readers were invited last week to vote for one of our subscribers, Brooklyn-based artist and illustrator Daniel Horowitz.

Yesterday, he wrote to let me know that he has won. Here is a detail from his poster, which can be seen in its entirety below.

To convey his thoughts on the legacy of the Great War for modern Europe, Daniel said, “I arrived at the image of a galloping Pegasus rendered in the form of a cage, housing a bird yearning to arise from its past, stronger and more vibrant than before.”

You can read Daniel’s DART Q&A here, check out his blog here, follow his marathon art project Metamorphosis here, and view the second-round selections in the Europe 14/14 competition here. His work will be on view at l’Inlassable Galeriesco in Paris as well as in NYC in March at Scope 2014.
