By Peggy Roalf   Wednesday December 18, 2013

Last Chances: Tuesday December 17-Saturday, December 21

Special hoursSCARYOKE!!! | Organized by Dan Koi. The end of a 6-week party: a chance for New Yorkers to sing on a Saturday night, on their lunch hour, or after a morning jog. It is an experiment, encouraging visitors to explore the outer boundaries of their own performativeinstincts and capacity for risk-taking.

You might be wondering, what makes this scary? We don‘t take requests and you can’t choose your song. You just get the mic, the music starts and if you know the song - you sing it. If you don't - you wing it!

Apex Art, 291 Church Street, NY, NY. Information.

Closing Saturday December 21

Solo show, 2 locations: Martin Creed. The exhibition highlights Creed’s strategies for making a large impact through small interventions in the world around him. His use of the commonplace – colored masking tape, metronomes, potted plants and balloons are among the many at-hand materials he employs – a practice for expressing the limitations of art and the limitless magic of the universe beyond its reach.

Group show: Mass Mediations | Featuring Josh Bricker, Tatiana Istomina, Anna Elise Johnson, Thomas O’Grady. Curated by Chris Mansour. Despite the various social and cultural environments these artists come from, what universally binds the logic of their artwork and personal experiences together is contemporary life’s saturation in mass media. Whether from Chicago to Moscow or Los Angeles to Manchester, mass media has opened the possibility for collective simultaneous experiences and a shared (but dissonant) global culture, consequently flattening cultural differences to a homogenous field.
Chuchifritos, 120 Essex Street, inside Essex Street Market, NY, NY. Below: Anna Elise Johnson, Diplomacy, acrylic, archival digital prints, resin.″

Continuing through February 23

Artist Space Books & Talks | Artists Space Exhibitions: Macho Man, Tell it To My Heart: Collected by Julie Ault, an exhibition of works selected and extended from the collection of Julie Ault. As a founding member of the artists’ collaborative Group Material (1979 –1996), and as artist, curator, writer and editor, Ault’s dense practice and its roots in long-standing engagements with artists are reflected in the unique nature of her collection. Its multiplicity is indicative of an organic process of accumulation, foregrounding the ways in which the gifting and exchange of artworks cements both intellectual and emotional affinities. Artist Space Books & Talks, 55 Walker Street | Artists Space Exhibitions, 38 Greene Street, 3rd Floor, NY, NY.Information.
