And the Winner is

Kent Miles was first in with the most comprehensive information -- about the facade and the labyrinth of the Cathedral of Amiens (French: Cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Amiens). For this he will receive a copy of AP 27designed by Antonio de Luca. Keith wrote:

I believe you are at the Our Lady of Amiens Cathedral, north of Paris. Completed in 1289, it is the largest of the (French) Gothic cathedrals. The labyrinth is the same pattern as the Chartres Cathedral labyrinth, but is octagonal rather than round. When the cleaning of the facade sculptures was done in the 1990s, it was discovered that they were originally polychrome, or painted, which must have been stunning when it was visible. The first two pictures you included show "Christ in Majesty Presiding over the Day of Judgement" and is part of the tympanum of the central west portal. Kent Miles.

Here are some exterior photos that shows this incredible structure in the context of its neighborhood. I was lucky enough to be staying a block away; every time i went out, I found my way back without a map by easily sighting its towers from half way across the city. I would return via the cathedral, often walking through the nave on my way home. Photos Peggy Roalf.
