And the Winners are!
Thanks to everyone who entered the August Book Prize Contest. It’s really great to hear from subscribers from all over and this was no exception, with entries from Brooklyn to the Bay Area.
A copy of American Photography 27 goes to New York-based photographer Micheal McLaughlin, who wrote: Socrates Sculpture Park at 53rd and Broadway in Long Island City, Mark Di Suvero's studio in the background. Cheers to you Micheal, not many people are aware that the sculptor who founded Socrates Sculpture Park, which is to the immediate left of the fence in the photo above, has his studio in said red structure.
And a copy of American Illustration 30 goes to Roger Hom of Elmhurst, NY, who wrote: You are a few feet south of Vernon Blvd and 31st Avenue, a few feet north of the end of Socrates Sculpture park. You are looking into the ONLY entrance to the rocky beach that's between Socrates Park and the red factory/warehouse building on Vernon and 30th Dr. Looking East from your location, you see a brick building with an old clock that has stopped. Each face shows a different time. The first floor is available for rent. Looks renovated. To the west of your location is the northern tip of Roosevelt island, and beyond that, Manhattan. I usually don't walk past Socrates Sculpure Park going north, but I discovered this oasis when I decided to go exploring the neighborhood.
So, watch for the second August installment coming next Monday in celebration of another of NYC’s water holes. This one should be a little easier….
