DIARY; Control Zee

By Peggy Roalf   Thursday October 30, 2025

I’ve often thought it would be good if we were more like throw pillows—always looking better with a just bit of fluffing up. Same with Control Z: the instant fix for any keyboard error. This 100% reliable panacea, however, doesn’t translate to everyday life. And with everyday life getting ever more plagued with uncertainty, we must look elsewhere. Above: Practicable 7, documentations centre, designed by Jocelyn Cottencin, is a space where you can take a seat, watch videos, check out books and experience the works in process.  Instead of weeping into my sketchbook—home, alone—I propose that I re-engage with an old design studio passion  for hand lettering, and make a bunch of protest posters. Almost any subject will do, as demonstrations and marches proliferate. Left: Floreal, a font designed for wall drawing by Jocelyn Cottencin; Info

With that in mind, I invite readers to send in their ideas for a reset—for Control Zee, a new DART department. We’re not looking for big, life-changing resolutions here. Something simple and attainable that will just make you feel better—even if only while you’re doing it. I look forward to hearing from you; please tell me your story by replying to this post, or email peggy@ai-ap.com. Please use Control Zee for the Subject

Note: the images here are the work of Jocelyn Cottencin, a polymath designer and educator who lives in Rennes, and who kindly designed the brilliant typographic heading for my website.
