Wednesday, August 6pm: Sahana Ramakrishnan | Arctic Circle, talk at Fridman
Sahana Ramakrishnan will share her recent experience in The Arctic Circle residency based in the remote Svalbard archipelago. Drawing from underwater recordings of belugas, narwhals, and bearded seals, she’ll explore Arctic ecology, sea ice, noise pollution’s impact on marine life, and reflections on Svalbard’s landscape and deep time.
In her paintings the artist draws from myth, science, and storytelling, to explore how we relate to the “Other”—planetary bodies, animal kin, and the vastness of time. She layers text, drawing, paint, gold leaf and rhinestones to create surfaces with accumulated meaning, evoking reverence for the natural world and transformation.

Continuing: Rhonda Weppler and Trevor | Mahovsky Maison Millefleurs at Wagner Park
Maison Millefleurs is a jewel box of a greenhouse filled with a tangled garden of life-sized flowers, each illuminated by programmed LED lights. Made by many hands – both by the artists Rhonda Weppler and Trevor Mahovsky and the public during the House of a Thousand Flowers workshop series, this outdoor installation echoes the form of a community garden and represents a magical coming together.
Maison Millefleurs is created by artists Rhonda Weppler and Trevor Mahovsky, with 3D printing and lighting design by Wade Weppler, and assistance from Richard Winchell. This project is presented by LMCC in partnership with Battery Park City Authority. Maison Millefleurs structure by Sturdi-Built Greenhouse. Note: See 3D printing workshop offered by NYPL above
Save the date: On September 21, the public will be invited to select a bouquet of flowers to keep, giving Maison Millefleurs new life as its flowers are dispersed throughout the city.
