Saturday, July 12, Last chance: William Kentridge | 33 Years of Collaboration with Master Printers at David Krut

The exhibition features a selection of prints, many of which were created in collaboration with the David Krut Workshop (DKW) in Johannesburg, and emphasizes the role of the printers and technicians in shaping the final artworks.  The show, which showcases the collaborative process between Kentridge and various printers, highlighting how their combined efforts bring his artistic visions to life.

The exhibition includes works created in collaboration with printers like Randy Hemminghaus and Jillian Ross, and more recently, Kim-Lee Loggenberg-Tim. The exhibition also highlights the conceptual role of the printmaking process in Kentridge's work. Kentridge's artistic process often involves intricate and multi-layered techniques, requiring the expertise of numerous collaborators. ArtRow notes that each individual involved in the process, from preparing the paper to etching the plates, contributes to the final artwork, making the collaboration an integral part of the artistic outcome. This collaborative approach is evident in series such as "The Nose," "Universal Archive," and "Triumphs and Laments". The exhibition aims to showcase the dynamic interplay between Kentridge's vision and the technical skills of his collaborators, demonstrating how their combined efforts bring his unique artistic vision to life.

LES Ecolology Center, 10:30am-noon: Watercolor Painting with Jodie Niss

The East River is a tidal strait and is part of the Hudson River estuary system. This ecosystem is habitat and spawning ground for a wide diversity of species. It has also faced many historical and current threats including pollution and climate change.

We will discuss the current state of the East River and conduct water quality testing to learn more about what’s going on in the waterway. Afterwards, we will use the collected East River water to do water coloring paintings inspired by the creatures of the estuary. The painting will be led by local artist and educator Jodie Niss.

All painting supplies will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring sunscreen, a hat, and a water bottle. All ages are welcome. Sign up HERE East River Park Track building, directions
