Labor Day is so late this year that this summer wind-up could begin and end in different seasons. So I was thrilled to see that the Upstate Art Weekend is on once again this year. Organized by Helen Toomer of Stoneleaf Retreat (above), the three-day event, which runs from August 27^th to 29^th, brings together dozens of art and cultural spaces, outdoors and indoors, for people who want to explore sculpture parks, museums, galleries, artists’ studios, residencies, public artworks and creative projects situated between Garrison and Ghent, NY. 

Among the sculpture parks are Storm King Art Center, Art Omni (above), and Opus 40 Sculpture Park. Artist houses include Olana, the Al Held Foundation, The Thomas Cole National Historic Site and the Russell Wright Design Center. Among museums are DIA Beacon, Hessel Museum of Art and the Dorsky Museum. The 61 participants are:

If you find yourself headed to Olana (above), you’ll find numerous galleries in the neighboring town of Hudson ready to welcome wandering art lovers. Currently on view at Tanja Gunert are artist-designed carpets in a show organized by Equator Productions and BraivnLee Editions.
