What We're Reading: The Unsettling Story of a Creative Commons Photo Scam

In 2013, photographer Kyle Cassidy uploaded one of his images — a shot of humorist and NPR personality Peter Sagal going for a run along Lake Michigan in Chicago — to Wikimedia Commons. Nearly seven years later, the photo was at the center of a bizarre scam involving affiliate links, a fake copyright enforcement company, and a Wikipedia user improbably named “Aldwin Sturdivant.”
