The Future of Design in Media Conference

By Peggy Roalf   Thursday May 26, 2011

Special for DART Subscribers: $100 discount for tickets to ABSTRACT: The Future of Design in Media Conference, which will take place on June 10, 2011 in Portland, Maine. It is organized and hosted by AIGA Maine.

The conference will bring together leading graphic designers and innovators to share their views on the changing media landscape, to inspire and challenge, and to help shape the future of visual design for the converging television, print and digital media platforms.

“Design is power, and no organization understands that principle like the AIGA,” said Scott Dadich, Executive Director, Condé Nast Editorial Development and a speaker at the conference. “I’m excited to be involved in a conference that speaks to the fundamental import of great design in what is an increasingly hard-to-parse, disaggregated media landscape.”

Mr. Dadich will be part of a vibrant, interactive roundtable discussion led by Alice Twemlow, Chair, Design Criticism MFA Program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. The roundtable will also feature such design thought leaders and innovators as Florian Bachleda, Creative Director of Fast Company, Dirk Barnett, Creative Director of Newsweek and The Daily Beast, Arem Duplessis, Design Director for The New York Times Magazine Group, Luke Hayman, Partner at Pentagram and Gael Towey, Chief Creative and Editorial Director, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.

Alice Twemlow, who will moderate the day-long discussion said, “This conference brings together some of the best creative directors in the United States to reflect on editorial design’s new priorities. There has never been a more interesting time for this discussion, coming as it does in the midst of a media revolution that is changing forever the way we define and interact with content across all media platforms.”

This full day, in-depth, design exploratory will held in the Hannaford Lecture Hall at the University of Southern Maine, 88 Bedford Street, Portland, Maine from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.
