511 Focus on Photography in Chelsea
Yesterday's mail brought an announcement from Dan Cooney about a special program taking place this Saturday at the photography galleries in Chelsea's 511 West 25th Street. The announcement reads, in part, "participating dealers will be available to discuss the joys of giving photographs for the holidays. Brief talks by several gallery owners displaying their expertise will be featured throughout the afternoon."
Some of the art on view includes (l-r) work by Hendrik Kerstens at Dean Project; G.P. Fieret at Deborah Bell Photographs; Claudio Edinger at 1500 Gallery; and Lydia Anne McCarthy at Daniel Cooney Fine Art.
This looked interesting and
useful, so I contacted Dan by email to find out more, and this is what he wrote:
We just figured that we have some of the best photography galleries all in the same building and that we
should join forces to create an interesting experience. We have everything from top quality vintage material at Alan Klotz Gallery to 1500 Gallery, which specializes in Brazilian photography, to
great contemporary galleries. We each chose something to speak about that would appeal to a variety of collectors and people interested in photography. Some of the gallerists are talking about
their current exhibitions; I will be talking about buying photographs online, and Alex Bueno de Moraes is giving an overview of contemporary Brazilian photography. Hopefully the event will be
educational and further establish the building as a destination for quality photographic exhibitions.
So if you're out on Saturday for what promises to be a beautiful day, add
this to your list:
511 West 23rd Street, NY, NY, between 10th-11th Avenues.
Participating galleries (with start times for their programs) are: Alan Klotz Gallery, 2:00 pm, Suite 701; Deborah Bell Photographs, 2:20 pm, Suite 703; 1500 Gallery, 2:40 pm, Suite 607; Daniel Cooney Fine Art, Suite 506; McKenzie Fine Art, Suite 208; Rick Wester Fine Art, Suite 205; http://www.deanproject.com/Dean Project, Suite 207.
