By Peggy Roalf   Thursday May 7, 2015

Design is having a New York moment—right now. With NYCxDESIGN on the way, and How Posters Work about to open at the Cooper Hewitt; the opening of the new Whitney Museum of American Art; Everything is Design: The Work of Paul Rand continuing at Museum of the City of New York; and Revolution of the Eye: Modern Art and the Birth of American Television, just opened at the Jewish Museum, DART takes a moment to remind subscribers mark their calendars for bites from this visual feast.

One of New York’s great resources for typophiles and designers is The Herb Lubalin Study Center, located at The Cooper Union. It is open weekdays by appointment. It also offers selections from the archive through Flickr/Photostream.

In addition, many events offered through The Herb Lubalin Lecture Series, a part of the Type@Cooper certificate program, are open to the public. Next on the schedule is John Baskerville, Letter-founder, with Ewan Clayton, on June 22. Information. Last, not least, the Type Directors Club is offering a Paul Rand Exhibition Tour on May 8.

For now, I offer a few selections from The Herb Lubalin Study Center, along with 14 ways to look at them through the eyes of Ellen Lupton, Senior Curator of Contemporary Design at The Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum.
