State of the Art: AI Has Lost Its Magic, and it's Ruining the Web. And Other Things.

A year and a half has passed since generative AI captured the public imagination. But, as writer Ian Bogost noted recently in The Atlantic, it's already feeling passe. And that, he adds, is how you know it's really taking over: What once seemed a "tool to supercharge your imagination" has become another work tool, he notes. Meanwhile, PetaPixel described how AI is ruining the web by filling it with "fake and bogus AI imagery and text." Those are two of the stories in today's roundup of AI news from around the web. James Yang on Charles & Ray Eames

  James Yang, illustrator/author of A Boy Named Isamu: A Story of Isamu Noguchi (Viking 2021), will launch his new book, Charles & Ray: Designers at Play (Viking 2024) next week.
