Exodus: Jewish Morocco
Essaouira, Morocco, Exodus: Jewish Morocco, January 2011. A guard dog in the Jewish cemetery of Essaouira, Morocco, home to the Jewish Saint Rabbi Haim Pinto. 300,000 Jews inhabited Morocco as of 1940; it was the largest Jewish population in the Arab World. Today, less than 4000 remain. This work is an examination of the remnants of Morocco’s Jewish history after their cultural exodus to Israel and abroad.
