These are excerpts from the 240-page graphic novel Ahmaldjan and the Hoopoe, about my father, who journeyed from Afghanistan to Germany in 1972. Inspired by Attar’s Conference of the Birds, it explores his life between art, war, and migration, while reflecting on identity and Afghanistan’s history.
