I was inspired to explore the lesser-known Hans Christian Andersen fairytale ' The Girl Who Trod on the Loaf.' It is a cautionary tale about a girl who ends up in hell for stepping on a large, wheaten loaf in order to avoid soiling her shoes in a muddy marsh.
