Annie Mok Draws James Joyce
I drew a cartoon adaptation of Joyce's story "Araby" from 'Dubliners' for 'The Graphic Canon' vol. 3 from Seven Stories Press, and I padded out a reprint of the story with a short adaptation of an excerpt from 'A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man,' which continues "Araby"'s coming-of-age story themes. I created this cover for the minicomic. Issue Press printed it with their Risograph. I took a page from Paul Buckley's 'Graphic Classics' series for Penguin, and in particular Chris Ware's cover for 'Candide.' Once a reader sees comics on the cover, they often begin reading before they've even realized they've made a decision to read.
