Honor Roll: Winners of the 2026 Sony World Photography Awards

Citlali Fabián has been named Photographer of the Year in the 2026 Sony World Photography Awards for her photo series focused on Indigenous activists and artists in southern Mexico. Fabián, who is from the Yalalteca Indigenous community, “uses photography to explore ways of addressing identity and its connections with territory, migration, and community bonds,” said the organizers in a statement. Spotlight: Remembering 'Fearless CNN Camera Operator' Margaret Gipsy Moth

As part of The New York Times's Overlooked  series of obituaries about remarkable people whose deaths previous went unreported, the newspaper spotlights Margaret Gipsy Moth, a camera operator for CNN who covered hostilities across the globe, including the Chechen war, the U.S. war in Afghanistan, the second Palestinian intifada and the civil war in Sierra Leone. “People say, ‘People like you — you have a death wish,’” she said in a 2009 CNN documentary. “And it used to make me so angry. I don’t know anyone who’s enjoyed life more or values my life more.” Moth died of cancer in 2010.   Read the full Story >>

Art News: Roger Therond's Photography Collection Goes to Auction

Roger Therond, who died in 2011 after a long career as the editor of Paris Match, one of the world’s great picture magazines, was also a collector who helped pioneer the art market for photography.  His collection caused a sensation in 1999 at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, notes Fine Books & Collections, which reports that Theron’s collection of 19th- and 20th-century photography will be offered across three sessions at Christie’s in Paris in September, following exhibitions in New York this month and Arles, France, in July.   Read the full Story >>
