Yosemite National Park officials have announced that reservations will not be needed to view and photograph Firefall, the natural phenomenon in which the setting sun illuminates Horsetail Fall on El Capitan, giving the waterfall a short-lived orange glow reminiscent of a sunset. (This year’s Firefall viewing period is projected to be Feb. 10 through Feb. 26.) The move comes despite a history of overcrowding during the event, notes SF Gate, which has previously reported that heavy foot traffic has led to trampled vegetation, trashed viewing areas, and unsanitary conditions. Dean Williams, a prolific still and set photographer for over 160 productions including Legally Blonde 2, Batman Returns, Caddyshack and The Blues Brothers Movie, died December 30 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, reports Deadline. He was 84. In addition to his work in Hollywood, Williams was the owner of namesake Dean Williams Photography, which specialized in professional portraits, weddings and events. He also preserved media via the Springfield Historic Media Center, a CIFC initiative dedicated to digitizing and safeguarding regional film knowledge for posterity. Read the full Story >>
