Nature Watch: Diver Captures First-Known Ross Seal Underwater Shot

US  marine biologist and photographer Justin Hofman has captured what Divernet says are the first-known underwater images of a Ross seal—a species found only in the most remote parts of Antarctica. “This animal lives so deep within the Antarctic pack-ice that its life history is not very well understood, and it is not seen very often,” says Hofman. “In 15 seasons of working in Antarctica, I have seen only two Ross seals, and this is the second one.” Hofman got the shot while working on the National Geographic Resolution cruise ship.   Read the full Story >>

“Existential challenges abound.” So reads the executive summary of a new report from Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism about journalism and technology trends in 2026. The report, which draws on interviews with 280 news executives from 51 countries, found confidence in the prospects for journalism is at an all-time low, notes Nieman Lab, as AI and creators disrupt traditional reporting. Tech News: What Was the Most Rented Photo Gear of the Year?

Canon and Sony dominate this year’s list of most rented cameras from LensRentals. The Canon R6 Mark II tops the list of most rented cameras, beating out the R5 Mark II and the original R5 in 8th and 4th place, respectively. Sony had nine different cameras making the top 20, ranging from premium video systems like the Sony FX6 to smaller point-and-shoot options like the Cybershot RX100 VII.
