Passings: Robert Caputo. Prolific Photographer and Filmmaker, Dies at 76

Robert Caputo, who spent 35 years traveling through Africa, Asia, and South America, taking photos, writing stories, and making films and TV shows for National Geographic, Time, PBS, TNT, and other media outlets, died on Dec. 18, 2025, in Basel, Switzerland, after traveling there for voluntary assisted dying due to Alzheimer's disease. He was 76, notes The Philadelphia Inquirer. “In fact, it is a great job,” Caputo told the Washington Post in 1995, when he was featured in a TV show about National Geographic photographers. “You really do get to go places and do things others only dream about.” See also: The Photo Society.   Read the full Story >>

A new generation of professional photographers is making a living out of artfully crafted canine portraits, notes Le Monde, though some things are different in Europe. New York-based photographer Carmen Gonzalez, who has been working as a dog photographer for four years, spent part of 2025 working in Italy and France, and she tells the French newspaper that Euro dogs are less well behaved in front of a camera. “New York dogs are so used to posing that it makes the job easier,” she says.   Read the full Story >>

Tech News: Fujifilm Raises the Curtain on the Cinematic Instax

Fujifilm has announced the global release of the Instax Mini Evo Cinema, a “surprising and rather controversial” hybrid camera that offers users the ability to take digital images, instant film photos, and to record video, notes DP Review. It is designed to produce retro-looking videos and photos, and the sensor appears to be a throwback as well, adds DPR. It’s built around a small 5MP Type 1/5 (∼2.8 x 2.2mm) CMOS sensor, which is smaller than even the most budget-focused smartphones.
