State of the Art: AI Company Anthropic Faces Class-Action Lawsuit from US Authors

A California federal judge has ruled that three authors suing AI company Anthropic over copyright infringement can bring a class-action lawsuit representing all U.S. writers whose work was allegedly downloaded from libraries of pirated works. The filing alleges that Amazon-backed Anthropic, maker of the chatbot Claude, “violated the Copyright Act by doing Napster-style downloading of millions of works,” notes The Verge. The authors’ lawsuit is part of a growing trend of media outlets, platforms, companies, and creatives suing AI companies over copyright infringement.   Read the full Story >>

Spotlight: Zed Nelson Reveals the 'Illusion' of Nature

Captured across 14 countries and four continents over six years, the images in photographer Zed Nelson’s project “The Anthropocene Illusion” show nature as imagined by humans: staged habitats in zoos, manufactured ski slopes, indoor rainforests, and artificial beaches. The work, which earned Nelson the Photographer of the Year prize in the 2025 Sony World Photography Awards, is equal parts ironic (a Maasai tribesman posing beside a picnic blanket for a champagne brunch in Kenya) and dystopian (a child seen amid the world’s largest indoor rainforest), notes CNN.   Read the full Story >>

Tech News: A Modern Take on the Polaroid SX-70 Folding Camera is Coming

Chinese manufacturer 10Art.CC is aiming to introduce a modern take on the iconic Polaroid SX-70 with its new Pocket Fold 66 camera, notes DP Review. 10Art.CC says it was inspired by the SX-70 because of its portability and image quality. However, it makes it clear that this isn't a replica of the beloved Polaroid. "We've only retained its folding structure, as it's the only way to achieve extreme compactness," noted the company. The camera will feature an optical viewfinder, automatic metering and EV adjustment and a 110mm F5.6 lens. I will reportedly be able to focus from 15cm (5.9") to infinity.   Read the full Story >>

Honor Roll: Abbey Road Music Photography Awards to Honor Anton Corbijn

Photographer, filmmaker, and music video director Anton Corbijn will be presented with the Icon Award at the annual Abbey Road Music Photography Awards ceremony on October 2, notes Music Week. “I like to think I evolved over the years, but I am still excited by music and photographing musicians now and then. To receive recognition from a body that contains the name of Abbey Road and with some of my peers as judges, I can only be grateful!” said Corbijn in a statement.
