Art News: The White House Will Scrutinize Smithsonian Museum Exhibitions to Fit Trump's Vision of History

The White House plans to conduct a far-reaching review of Smithsonian museum exhibitions, materials and operations ahead of America’s 250th anniversary to ensure the museums align with President Trump’s interpretation of American history, reports The Wall Street Journal. Texts and exhibitions will be reviewed by the White House, as will grants given to artists and collection displays, adds Art News. Among the 19 museums to be scrutinized are three institutions predominantly focused on art: the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.   Read the full Story >>

The iPhone Photography Awards has announced the winners of the 18th edition of the contest, selected from thousands of entries from 140 countries. The top prize goes to American photographer Jarod Peraza for his image “Viajero Nocturno,” Shot on an iPhone 16 Pro Max, the photo features  the silhouette of a solitary man on a  nighttime street in Villa de Leyva, Colombia, illuminated by the yellow glow of a streetlamp. “Cinematic in its quality, the photograph keeps us guessing about what will happen next,” notes My Modern Met.   Read the full Story >>

Follow-Up: Kodak Refutes 'Misleading' Reports of Its Imminent Demise

News reports of Kodak’s imminent demise have been greatly exaggerated, the company says. In an earnings report released last week, Kodak warned of “substantial doubt” about its ability to pay impending debts, prompting worries the company would not survive. Following a storm of news coverage, Kodak released a statement  refuting  “misleading media reports” caused by its Q2 filing, notes Printweek. “The most important things to know are: Kodak has no plans to cease operations, go out of business, or file for bankruptcy protection," the company noted in the statement.   Read the full Story >>
