In Focus: Deadly Flooding in Texas Seen in Timelapse

Early Friday morning, heavy rainfall in central Texas set off flash floods, causing the Guadalupe River to rise 26 feet in less than an hour and reportedly killing at least 89 people—including many girls at a summer camp, notes The Atlantic, which features news service images of the disaster from photographers Jim Vondruska (Getty); Ronaldo Schemidt (AFP / Getty); and others. Industry News: Tamron Claims It is the Top Third-Party Lens Maker by Total Sales

Tamron has published a new report  saying it has the largest market share of all third-party lens manufacturers. The company says its sales increased 16 percent year-over-year to around 7.5 billion yen ($51.76 million). Tamron’s robust performance comes not only from sales of its own branded lenses but also the lenses it makes for OEM manufacturers, notes PetaPixel. According to the report, Tamron’s total lens sales include approximately 55% of its own and 45% of OEM lenses for other companies.   Read the full Story >>

Apply Now: The $30,000 W. Eugene Smith Grant

W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund   Tuesday July 8, 2025

The W. Eugene Smith Fund is now accepting applications for its 46th annual Grant in Humanistic Photography. This year a single photographer will be awarded a grant of $30,000 to pursue a documentary project. Two additional $10,000 grants will be awarded as Snith Grant Finalists. The Smith Fund will also provide $67,500 in grants and fellowships and more than $8,000 in entry fee waivers to underrepresented photographers around the world. Tech News: Pixelmator Pro Gets First Big Update Since Its Acquisition by Apple

Apple has updated Pixelmator Pro, the drawing and photo-editing app it acquired last year. The new version of Pixelmator Pro incorporates Apple Intelligence features like Writing Tools and Image Playground, notes MacRumors. Pixelmator Pro 3.7’s improvements are mainly focused on integrating existing Apple technology into the app, adds PetaPixel: With the addition of Apple Intelligence to Pixelmator Pro, users can now generate images using Apple’s Image Playground technology or utilize Apple’s Writing Tools to proofread or rewrite any text in existing designs.   Read the full Story >>
