This spring both Nikon and Canon issued vague statements about price increases in the US due to Trump tariffs. Nikon gave a date of June 23 for the increase, though it didn't provide any specifics. Canon simply said that it would be increasing prices, with no date or amount specified. Now, notes DP Rewview, the companies have now followed through on those statements, with increased pricing of some Nikon and Canon cameras and lenses as of June 23. DIY Photography notes that Canon’s price hikes “hits hard.”

Ukrainian National Museum Wednesday July 9, 2025
Through Sept. 7, the Ukrainian National Museum in Chicago is featuring the exhibition “Courage of a Nation,” which showcases more than 40 war images by American philanthropist, businessman, and photographer Howard G. Buffett. The son of Warren Buffet, Howard Buffet crossed the border into Ukraine, camera in hand, about six weeks after Russia began its invasion in February of 2022. Since then, he has made more than 20 trips to Ukraine, including trips to Bucha, Kharkiv, and Bakhmut, notes the museum. See also: the Chicago Sun-Times.

John Felton Corn Jr., better known to most as Jack, a former photojournalist and professor at Western Kentucky University, died July 1. “Corn leaves behind him a long legacy of powerful journalism through photography,” notes The Tennessean, for which he covered stories including the Civil Rights Movement in Nashville. His published work "influenced state laws and captured everyday Tennesseans who were elated to be pictured,” adds the newspaper. As a professor of photojournalism at WKU, he helped launch the professional journeys of photojournalists.
