Books: Nadia Lee Cohen and Martin Parr Create 'Julie Bullard'

As a photographer, Nadia Lee Cohen has collaborated with some the biggest stars in the world, from Beyoncé to Kim Kardashian. She’s also shape-shifted herself as a model, à la Cindy Sherman. Cohen’s latest project sees her stepping in front of the lens in a collaboration with a star of a different sort: legendary photographer Martin Parr. Together, notes W magazine, they made the book Julie Bullard, in which Cohen transforms into Julie, a character inspired by her real-life childhood babysitter. Legal Brief: Court Rules Photographer Can Refuse to Work Same-Sex Weddings

A federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction in favor of a Christian wedding photographer temporarily blocking New York State from enforcing anti-discrimination laws that she argues violate her First Amendment rights.  U.S. District Judge Frank Geraci found that photographer Emilee Carpenter’s work constitutes “expressive activity protected by the First Amendment.” Carpenter, represented by the conservative legal group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), filed suit against the state’s public accommodation laws, which prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, notes PetaPixel.   Read the full Story >>

Industry News: Nikon Will Raise Prices Due to Tariffs

Nikon has announced that it will increase prices on its photography products in the US due to tariffs, joining other camera manufacturers including Canon, Blackmagic Design and Leica, notes Engadget. Nikon said a “necessary price adjustment” will take effect on June 23, but didn’t provide  information about how much prices will rise, reports DIY Photography, or, adds Engadget, which products will be affected. Nikon said it would “be carefully monitoring any tariff developments” to “adjust pricing as necessary.”   Read the full Story >>

Tech News: Voigtlander's New Lens Lets You Dial In Bokeh

Cosina Voigtländer’s newest lens gives users more control over their images, notes DP Review: The Portrait Heliar 75mm F1.8 lens is the company's first allowing photographers to adjust the look of the bokeh. Designed for full-frame Sony E-mount cameras, the lens relies on manual focus and features an aperture control ring. Additionally, the front of the lens features a spherical aberration control ring marked 'over' and 'under.' Turning that ring allows photographers to under- or overcorrect spherical aberration, changing the look of out-of-focus areas.   Read the full Story >>
