State of the Art: Nick Clegg Says Asking Artists for Use Permission Would 'Kill' the AI Industry

As policy makers in the UK weigh how to regulate the AI industry, Nick Clegg, former UK deputy prime minister and Meta’s former head of global affairs, claimed a push for artist consent would “basically kill” the AI industry. Speaking at an event promoting his new book, Clegg said the creative community should have the right to opt out of having their work used to train AI models. Elon Musk has shared a post containing a photographer’s images and passed them as AI-generated to advertise X’s AI image generator Grok, notes PetaPixel. The photographer, Charles Brooks, takes photos of the inside of musical instruments and is the only photographer in the world to have ever captured the inside of an intact violin; these photos were posted by Eric Jiang but edited so that people were inside of them. Musk then shared Jiang’s post with the caption, “Generate images with Grok.” When Brooks responded to the posts, his X account was restricted.   Read the full Story >>

A British news photographer underwent  emergency surgery after being hit by a non-lethal bullet while documenting the stand-off between police and protesters in Los Angeles. The photographer, Nick Stern, was covering the protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Sunday when he said a three-inch "plastic bullet" tore into his thigh. "There was something hard sticking out of the back of my leg and my leg was getting wet from blood," he told the BBC. State of the Art: Auschwitz Museum Warns Against Fake AI Images of Victims

The Auschwitz Museum has issued a warning about Facebook posts with AI-generated images of victims of the Nazi German death camp, notes The Times of Israel. The museum at the site of the former Auschwitz-Birkenau camp has long used its own social media accounts to publish authentic victim photos, names and information to raise Holocaust awareness. Now it has discovered Facebook pages featuring similar victim bios but with fictional information or photos, The museum condemns the images for “falsifying history.”   Read the full Story >>
