Hamburg-based collector Jochen Raiß has discovered a whole new branch of photography, notes The Guardian: For 25 years, Raiß has been scouring flea markets for historical amateur photographs. After finding a photo of a woman smiling in a tree, he started to notice this was a recurrent theme, especially popular between the 1920s and 1950s. Over the years he accumulated 91 such photos, now collected in a book, Women in Trees (Hatje Cantz). Many of the images “possess a remarkable depth and beauty,” Raiß says. Read the full Story >>

Podcasts started as an audio-only phenomenon. But now, notes Variety, YouTube — the world’s biggest video platform — might be the biggest platform for podcasts. According to the Google-owned video giant, YouTube now has more than 1 billion monthly viewers for podcast content worldwide. In 2024, users watched more than 400 million hours of podcasts monthly on living-room devices, the company said. “This milestone underscores how YouTube has come to play an essential role in podcasting for creators and audiences,” announced YouTube.

Photographer Christopher Paetkau has won the €1000 top prize in the second annual Nature Photography Contest for his sublime image of a polar bear lying on a bed of blazing magenta fireweed. “The scene was surreal—the golden hues of sunrise mingled with the vibrant fireweed, creating a breathtaking backdrop as the bear hunted for Arctic terns among the rocks,” notes Paetkau, adding that the photo is a “powerful reminder of the raw magic and tranquility of the Arctic wilderness.”
