Every summer, thousands of fireflies, or himebotaru, drift through the night sky in Japan’s forests, emitting a wondrous shimmer that to photographer Kazuaki Koseki evokes the magic of fairies. For the past 8 years, Koseki has pursued himebotaru throughout Japan’s Yamagata prefecture, a region in which they’re an endemic species. It’s become a summertime ritual for the photographer, during which, notes My Modern Met, he uses a long exposure technique to capture glowing constellations of fireflies.

Margarita Galandina and Alice Poyzer are the series winners of the British Journal of Photogaphy’s s 2024 Female in Focus x Nikon award, an annual program designed to support women artists and image-makers in an industry in which they are still underrepresented. Poyzer’s series "Other Joys" taps into her lived experience of autism, a condition often under-diagnosed in women. Galandina’s project, “Ovoo” looks at the sacred totem poles used by the Buryat people of southeastern Siberia to mark spiritually significant land.

Tamron has begun manufacturing operations at its second factory in Vietnam to expand its production capacity, make its supply production capabilities more stable, and, the company noted, to improve its response to ever-changing geopolitical situations, including tariffs levied by countries like the United States against goods manufactured in China. The three-story factory in in Vietnam’s Vnh Phúc province will manufacture lenses, including photographic lenses and optics for surveillance systems and motor vehicles, notes PetaPixel.

YouTube is warning creators about a new phishing scam that attempts to lure victims using an AI-generated video of its CEO Neal Mohan. The fake video has been shared privately with users and claims YouTube is making changes to its monetization policy in an attempt to steal their credentials, notes The Verge. “YouTube and its employees will never attempt to contact you or share information through a private video,” YouTube says. “If a video is shared privately with you claiming to be from YouTube, the video is a phishing scam.”
