Art News: Photo Art Fair in Hong Kong Is Cancelled Months Ahead of its 2025 Debut

Photofairs organizer Creo has scrapped plans for a Hong Kong version of the contemporary art fair for photography in March 2025, citing logistical issues. In June, London-based Creo cancelled a Photofairs event scheduled to take place in New York in 2024. The Hong Kong iteration of the art fair was announced shortly afterward and was seen  as a vote of confidence in the city’s art market despite a recent slump, notes the South China Morning Post. When the Hong Kong fair was announced, Creo said it had yet to receive any funding from the Hong Kong government’s Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund.   Read the full Story >>

State of the Art: OpenAI Releases Sora Video Generator

Following an early preview at the start of this year, OpenAI has made its long-awaited Sora video generation model ready for public use. If you're a ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscriber in the US or "most other countries" where the chatbot is available, you can begin experimenting with it, notes Engadget—and, adds Mashable, many people have been, with “wild” results. The version that has been released, called Sora Turbo, is more powerful and significantly faster than the product OpenAI showed off in February, though OpenAI cautions the new model “often generates unrealistic physics and struggles with complex actions over long durations.”   Read the full Story >>
