Mangesh Desai from Pune, India, is the top winner of the 2024 Nature’s Best Photography contest for his photo of a mother Bengal tiger giving her offspring a “masterclass” in fighting. “Over the years, I have witnessed this young tiger on his path toward independence, starting with lessons from his mother teaching him to defend his territory,” notes Desai. This year’s competition drew over 25,000 submissions by photographers in 62 countries. Winners were chosen across 11 categories.

A Florida photographer was fatally shot by a women after they allegedly got into a disagreement about pictures she took of her. Lauren Ashley Martin, 34, died after being shot multiple times outside a Sanford, Fla., home on Tuesday, Nov. 5, the Sanford Police Department said in a statement. Police arrested 35-year-old Savon Chantay Tyler in connection with the killing. Sanford police charged another woman, Lakevia Davonna Pringle, apparently the suspect’s girlfriend, for streaming the attack on social media.

Stock photography is dead, but you can still earn decent money for your photos by licensing them for book cover use, notes Digital Camera World. Unlike Royalty Free, a Rights Managed image can’t be used by another client (for the duration of the project), so a publisher knows that the image that they are licensing won’t appear on a rival publisher’s book cover. As a result, the fees for licensed images are much more rewarding than fees for royalty-free stock, explains DCW.
