Industry News: Nikon Will Supply USC Film School with Cameras and Lenses

After acquiring the RED Cinema camera company earlier this year, Nikon is pushing forward on a move into filmmaking: In a new collaboration with the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, Nikon will be supplying the film school with various cameras and lenses, including Red Komodo and Komodo X digital cinema cameras, Nikon Z6 III mirrorless cameras, and Nikkor lenses,. “While the announcement is largely a marketing exercise, it's also an interesting strategic step for Nikon,” notes DP Review.   Read the full Story >>

Passings: Matthew Lewis, Pulitzer-Winning Washington Post Photographer, Dies at 94

Matthew Lewis, a Washington Post photographer who won the Pulitzer Prize for his portfolio of Washington-area personalities and ways of life and who became the newspaper’s first Black assistant managing editor, died Oct. 2 at his home in Thomasville, North Carolina, reports the newspaper. He was 94. The Post hired Lewis in 1965, four years after Ellsworth J. Davis became the paper’s first Black photographer. “When I first started, I was very fortunate to get a job as an African American,” Lewis said. “Work ethic was very important and vital where I come from.”   Read the full Story >>
