Online image and video editing tool Kapwing recently set out to identify the influential public figures most commonly targeted by deepfake creators in 2024. To do this, notes PetaPixel, Kapwing analyzed thousands of requests on Discord’s most active free text-to-video AI tool, manually counting the number of prompts for 500 influential public figures in American culture. Donald Trump tops the list with 12,384 deepfake videos depicting him in 2024 — far more than any other person in the study. Elon Musk comes in second with 9,544 deepfakes, followed by Taylor Swift at 8,202.

Following the announcement of its finalists, the winners of the 2024 Abbey Road Music Awards have been revealed. Photographer Tom Pallant wins the Music Moment of the Year category for his homage of English rock band Blur performing at Wembley stadium in July, 2023; Andreia Lemos wins the Undiscovered Photographer of the Year category for a photo of Australian pub rock band Amyl and the Sniffers. “I have been shooting the Sniffers since they first came to London over five years ago,” says Lemos.

On Oct. 12, deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a popular hiking trail in the San Gabriel Mountains near Los Angeles, where they discovered Paul Lowe, a celebrated British photojournalist who had been stabbed to death. His son, Emir Lowe, has been arrested on suspicion of murder, reports KTLA. Photographer Lara Jo Regan, a colleague of Lowe, said he told her he was in Southern California to manage some family matters. They had planned to meet up, but after several days went by, she hadn’t heard from him.
