Honor Roll: Wildlife Photographer of the Year Preview

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest has released a preview of some of the Highly Commended images in this year’s competition. The highlighted work includes a shot of a deceased deer on a forest floor on an icy winter morning—the first ever photograph taken with a smartphone to be given a Highly Commended honor in the competition, notes CNN. Winners of will be announced on October 8, and 100 photographs from the competition will be showcased in an exhibition at London’s Natural History Museum from October 11. Media Watch: Spin Magazine Returns to Print

Wait, is print making a comeback? The Onion is now coming out in print, and Life magazine is due for a return to print. Now, after more than a decade out of circulation, the music magazine Spin is returning to print as a quarterly, notes Billboard. The revived magazine, which hit newsstand on Aug. 27 with a cover photo of Lainey Wilson, is again being run by Spin founder and editor-in-chief Bob Guccione Jr. “In today’s noisy digital ecosystem, print plays a fun and new role for all readers of all ages,” said Spin CEO Jimmy Hutcheson.   Read the full Story >>

Art News: Venus Williams Hosts a Photography Podcast

Tennis star Venus Williams has teamed up with the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh to host the institution’s new podcast, “Widening the Lens: Photography, Ecology, and the Contemporary Landscape.” The six-episode series is a companion piece to the institution’s exhibition of the same name, which opened in May and is on view through January 2025, notes Artnet.
