In 2023, FotoEvidence released the book Ukraine: A War Crime, which brought together work from 93 photojournalists to present their firsthand testimony about the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Now FotoEvidence is bringing out Ukraine: Love+War (2014-2024), a product of the 2024 FotoEvidence Book Award. The book, which looks at the impact of the Russian invasion on children and families in Ukraine, features work from 94 Ukrainian and international photojournalists from 23 countries.

Wildscreen, a wildlife conservation charity, has joined with the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition to launch WildPhotos 2024, a new one-day event with talks from world-leading nature photographers. Among the headliners: National Geographic photographer, filmmaker, and author Charlie Hamilton James, who will showcase his project “End Times,” described as "an exploration of the evolution from photojournalism into an artistic exploration of global environmental collapse." The elk mating season, commonly referred to as the rut, has begun in Yellowstone National Park, and park officials are warning photographers and tourists to stay away from the animals--especially males. That means using a zoom lens to photograph them. “Stay alert, stay away, stay safe! Bull elk are unpredictable and much more aggressive during this time of year and people have been severely injured. Elk run quickly and may change direction without warning. Attacks can be unprovoked and unpredictable,” warns the National Park Service.

“Kids are just more open than adults. They’re freer. They play more. They’re in the process of becoming — nothing is hardened or set in stone yet.” So says Evanston, Illinois-based photographer Melissa Ann Pinney, who has spent the past six years embedded in Chicago public schools. She started at an elementary and a middle school but in recent years shifted to high schools, notes Chicago Magazine. Her residency coincided with the pandemic, a resurgence of social justice activism, and a teachers’ strike.
