Spotlight: This Person Did a Photo Project on Wedgies. Really.

For the past four years, Brooklyn-based portrait photographer Benjamin Fredrickson  has been snapping models willing to floss their cheeks in the name of art, notes Dazed. He understands that his series “Wedgies” will probably be appreciated by the few, rather than the many. “If nobody pays attention to my work after this, that’s fine,” he says. “It’s fun, it’s sexy, it connects people. Follow-Up: Judge Fines Wildlife Photographer $500 Over Traffic Violation Charge

As we noted recently, acclaimed wildlife photographer Tom Mangelson clashed with Grand Teton National Park rangers in federal court last month when he challenged a traffic ticket he received in October. Mangelson was “roving a park highway while documenting the aftermath of a suspected vehicle strike that injured Grizzly 610, a famous roadside bear,” noted the Jackson Hole News. Mangelson estimated he spent up to $20,000 on his defense, which included testimony from a retired Grand Teton law enforcement officer who said the photographer was doing what the rangers on scene that day should have been doing—slowing traffic to protect the bear.  Now, reports the Wyoming Tribune Eagle, Mangelson has been fined $500.   Read the full Story >>

Honor Roll: Dior's Seventh Photography and Visual Arts Award

This year’s Dior Photography and Visual Arts Award for Young Talents goes to Chia Huang, a student from the École National Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, for her series “Silence is speaking” — a portrait of  two autistic brothers from Taitung, a small town in Taiwan, who do not communicate through a formal language and live with their ill father. Huang, who is from Taiwan, received the €10,000 award at the photography festival in Arles, France, notes WWD. This was the seventh edition of the award.   Read the full Story >>

Tech News: Sony Issues Partial Recall of Tough CFexpress Type A Memory Cards

Sony Japan has issued a partial recall of the company’s CEA-G (Tough) series CFexpress Type A memory cards. Under certain conditions, the card can become unrecognized by the camera and not save files correctly. “Fortunately, the conditions won’t be an issue for most of us," notes DIY Photography. “They happen when the cards are being used at their extreme low-temperature limits, around -10°C. Sony’s partial recall covers specific batches of memory cards, and Sony will repair or replace them for free.”   Read the full Story >>
