A custom-made drone designed by South Africa-based photographer and YouTuber Luke Bell and his father Mike has set a world record after flying just shy of 300 miles an hour. Guinness confirmed the record, which was set on April 21 with Bell’s 3D-printed Peregrine 2 drone. “The duo knew that to reach the desired speeds, they needed to ace the aerodynamic design. But without a wind tunnel, Luke and Mike were left holding their designs out of the car window and gauging how they handled the airflow,” notes Interesting Engineering.   Read the full Story >>

Tech News: SanDisk's Desk Drive is an External SSD for Your Desktop

Portable SSDs have become commonplace, but many of us are still using mechanical hard drives for external storage on the desktop. SanDisk is hoping to change that with the new SanDisk Desk Drive, notes DIY Photography. The device, which is designed to be set up and left in place with your desktop PC or Mac, requires external power. Initially, the Desk Drive is being offered in 4TB and 8TB capacities, but SanDisk says they’re hoping to have 16TB versions out before the end of the year.   Read the full Story >>

Legal Brief: Photographer Wins Copyright Case Over Painting

A court in Luxembourg has ruled in favor of U.S. photographer Jingna Zhang, who accused artist Jeff Dieschburg of making an exact copy one of Zhang’s photos for his painting “Turandot.” The verdict overturns a 2022 ruling by a lower court that favored Dieschburg, notes RTL. Dieschburg is prohibited from exhibiting the painting in the future, with a penalty of €1,000 per day up to a maximum of €100,000 for non-compliance.
