The Paris Photo art fair returns for its 26th edition from November 9 to 12, 2023 at the Grand Palais Éphémère, with 191 exhibitors featuring work from more than 800 artists. The event has a particular focus on women artists and digital work, notes Artnet news. “This year the show’s program offers even more diversity in photography practices. Digital art has been present in Paris Photo for several years, but we are seeing use of technical tools accelerating and the emergence of a new artistic scene,” says artistic director Anna Planas.

In May, photographer Lynn Goldsmith won a landmark intellectual property case in the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled the late Andy Warhol infringed on her copyright by using her photo of Prince as the basis of a painting. She now tells Billboard that the legal battle ravaged her financially. “The costs were well above $2.5 million. I knew from the start that there were not damages in there for me to collect on because I’m beyond the statute of limitations,” says Goldsmith. But, she notes, she didn’t want to stand up to the Warhol Foundation’s “bullying.” Goldsmith’s latest book is Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band: Darkness On the Edge of Town(Taschen).

French photographer Alexandre Silberman is the winner of the 2023 Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize for his image “Diena”—part of Silberman’s series “Nature,” which includes portraits made in one of the largest green spaces near Paris, La Courneuve park. Judges praised the image for its blend of the traditional and the contemporary, juxtaposing historical depictions of a Madonna with modern signifiers such as the sitter’s nose ring and headphones, notes The Guardian. Silberman wins £15,000.

Sony has announced the Alpha 9 Mark III, the world's first full-frame camera with a global shutter. The global shutter means photos with zero distortion of movement, notes DP Review.The 24.6MP camera can shoot at 120 fps with no blackout and a maximum shutter speed of 1/80,000 sec. It can pre-buffer for up to 1 sec, giving a preemptive 120 frames of pre-capture. The a9 II is built around the latest Bionz XR processors, giving eight times as much power as the a9 II.
