Trending: Artists Angry Over AI-Created Credits for Marvel's 'Secret Invasion'

Marvel’s latest series, Secret Invasion, has sparked backlash after it was confirmed the show’s opening credit sequence was AI-generated, notes TechCrunch. Series director Ali Selim admitted credits were designed by VFX company Method Studios using artificial intelligence. The sequence is inspired by the show’s plot of shape-shifting “Skrulls” invading Earth, adds Variety. “The revelation has caused a stir on social media, as it’s presumed that the use of AI on the opening credits precluded work for graphic designers and animators,” notes The Guardian.   Read the full Story >>

Addendum: Weirdly, Apple Now Wants to Trademark Real Apples

Big Tech has conquered the world, and now it's coming for fruit: Apple is trying to assert intellectual property rights to images of actual apples. The company, reports Wired, has filed an application to own the international trademark rights for a realistic, black-and-white image of a Granny Smith apple. The effort is international in scope: A Swiss fruit firm, Fruit-Union Suisse, whose logo is a red apple with the Swiss national flag superimposed on it, worries it may have to come up with a new design.   Read the full Story >>

Nature Watch: To Photograph a Puffin, Look Like a Puffin

Martin Yelland has taken his effort to photograph puffins to another level: While on a snorkeling trip at Skomer Island off the coast of West Wales, he donned a decoy puffin on his head while approaching real birds swimming nearby. Result: “Yelland attracted the curiosity of the puffins, resulting in fascinating photos that simultaneously feature a viewpoint in and out of the water,” notes My Modern Met.
