Meta is moving on from the crypto world: The company will end its tests of minting and selling NFTs on Instagram as well as the ability to share NFTs on Instagram and Facebook in the coming weeks, reports The Verge. The move, and the end of the Reels Play bonus program for creators, seem to be casualties of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s drive to make 2023 the “year of efficiency” at Meta. Their end follows the shutdowns of the Meta-backed cryptocurrency Diem and Meta’s Novi digital wallet last year.

Lynsey Addario’s memorable photograph of Ukrainian civilians killed by Russian shelling in the city of Irpin on March 6, 2022, has been awarded the Best in Show prize in the NPPA’s 2023 Best of Photojournalism competition. Salwan Georges of the The Washington Post wins the Photojournalist of the Year award for large markets for a portfolio of work, including images of endangered black rhinos. Jessica Phelps of the San Antonio Express-News wins the prize for small markets.

SportsShooter.com, a popular online resource for sports photographers, is shutting down as of today. The site's origins can be traced back to an email newsletter that USA Today photographer Robert Hanashiro began in 1998. The newsletter eventually reached a subscriber list of around 7,000 readers and featured contributions from many pro photographers, notes Imaging Resource. Freelance photographer Brad Mangin began archiving each newsletter issue of Sports Shooter on his personal website, and that content evolved into the dedicated SportsShooter.com website in 2002.
