A rare photo of Shoeless Joe Jackson believed to be taken around the time of the 1919 “Black Sox” World Series scandal is up for auction, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. The date stamped on the back of the photo, Oct. 29, 1919, is about three weeks after the Series ended. Experts say the shot was taken just before, if not during, the series. The 7x10-inch Jackson photo was taken for the Newspaper Enterprise Association. The “Black Sox” scandal involved members of the 1919 Chicago White Sox who were accused of throwing games. Congress and the Biden administration have ratcheted up concerns that TikTok (and other tech) could expose Americans’ sensitive data to China, notes The New York Times. With a potential U.S. ban on the horizon, reports Engadget, TikTok has outlined a new data policy designed to convince European lawmakers it is not a security threat. Dubbed Project Clover, the guidelines will see TikTok introduce “security gateways” governing employee access to European user information and data transfers outside of the continent. A third-party security firm will be responsible for overseeing TikTok’s new data security controls.

British Wildlife Photography Awards Friday March 17, 2023
Photographer Charlie Page’s image of a red fox walking through a woodland cut down to make way for an industrial development is the grand prize winner of this year’s British Wildlife Photography Awards. “I knew this area was frequented by foxes, and I wanted to take an image with the industrial backdrop to show the devastation caused to this local woodland,” Page says. This year’s competition drew more than 13,000 images from amateur and professional photographers across Great Britain. Read the full Story >>
