German-born, Dubai-based photographer Sascha Fonseca specializes in shooting wildlife images with camera traps—the value of which was recently proven when Fonseca recorded a rare Siberian tiger in its natural environment—among eastern Russia's birch forests. The big cats are the world's largest, but there are only around 500 left in the wild, notes My Modern Met. “You could spend months or even years staked out and not capture a single image. Auction Report: Oskar Barnack's 1923 Leica May Fetch $3.2M

A rare, almost 100-year old Leica may set a world record, notes DIY Photography. The Leica 0-Series No. 105 camera, produced in 1923 and owned by Leica inventor Oskar Barnack himself, will be up for sale at the Leitz Photographica Auction, the world’s largest auction of historic cameras. It is estimated that the camera will sell for $3.2 million. Only 23 of these Leica 0-series were produced to test the market, two years before Leica even officially hit the shelves. Legal Brief: Texas Anti-Drone Law Overturned in Federal Court

A federal judge has overturned the state of Texas’ stringent drone restrictions, ruling them an unconstitutional violation of the First Amendment. In his ruling, District Judge Robert Pitman enjoined the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Highway Patrol from enforcing Chapter 423 of the Texas Government Code, notes the NPPA, which had challenged the laws in a 2019 suit. The state’s drone law amounted to a broad ban on drone use for a wide range of purposes that included journalism, noted the NPPA. Billy Calzada, a staff photographer at the San Antonio Express-News, was threatened with arrest after photographing the aftermath of a fatal fire with his drone, noted the organization.   Read the full Story >>
