The Verge notes that Lenovo has introduced its own selfie cam, the Vibe Z2. And Photo Rumors reports that Sony recently unveiled its Cybershot KW11 selfie camera in Asia. The program also has a number of visual-effect presets to change the coloring of the sequence. State of the Art: Disney Animator Draws in Virtual Reality

Back when former Disney animator Glen Keane was working on classics like Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, he used old-fashion drawing tools. Now you can watch him create art in virtual reality with an HTC Vive VR headset and Tilt Brush. Keane, who has also created art for Google's Advanced Technology and Projects group, made the VR demo for the 2015 Future of Storytelling Summit  (Oct. 7 and 8 in NYC). Friday Addendum: Why Rattlesnake Selfies Are a Bad Idea

Probably the most viral piece of photo news this week was about a San Diego man who thought it would be a good idea to take a selfie with a rattlesnake. It was not: Todd Fassler picked said snake out of the brush and decided to memorialize the event. The snake bit him. CNET notes that Fassier’s subsequent medical expenses topped $150,000—his case reportedly depleted the antivenom supplies at two local hospitals. Apparently, a lot of pain was also involved. Rio de Janeiro-based photographer Marizilda Cruppe notes on her website that she studied mechanics in high school and found her first job, at age 16, doing electrical maintenance at a pen factory. At 20, she began working toward her dream of becoming a commercial pilot but was forced to quit due to “financial limitations.” Her fallback dream, however, was photography. Resources: This 3D Map Shows Where You Can Hike In a Given Amount of Time

If you’re a photographer who often hikes in the great outdoors, you might be interested in a new feature from the mapping service FATMAP, notes PetaPixel. It’s called the Travel Distance layer, and it shows on a 3D map exactly where you’ll be able to hike to in any given amount of time. The map doesn’t just take into account the straight line distance for its calculations, but also the geographical properties (e.g. slope/gradient) of the map as well. Legal File: Urbex Photog Faces Jail Time and 15,000-Euro Fine

While urban exploring (also referred to as urbex) can result in thrilling photos, it’s not always fun and games, notes DIY Photography, which reports that an urbex photographer who has had a brush with the law—one that could land him in jail for up to a year and cost him a 15,000-Euro fine. The photog, who goes by the pseudonym The Other Side used Facebook to tell his story, which involved shooting in an abandoned factory in France. Amazon Studios, the original film and series production arm of Amazon.com, has introduced a new tool called Storybuilder aimed at making the process of filmmaking more organized, if not easier, notes FastCompany. Storybuilder replaces old-fashioned pen-and-ink solutions that screenwriters and filmmakers use to collect their ideas with a virtual post-it note design, in which notes are arranged against a “corkboard” background in columns as a timeline or by category.
