Photojournalist Revisits People He Photographed During L.A. Riots

Today, Hyungwon Kang is senior picture editor for Thompson Reuters. Twenty years ago, as a staff photographer for the Los Angeles Times, he covered the riots that shook that city and the nation. He recently returned to the L.A.’s Koreatown to document the stories of people who lived through the period. “Nobody I have met so far has recovered from it, either financially or emotionally,” he says in a touching video about his recent project. “Their American dream a lot of times was lost during the riots.”
