Passings: Rock Photographer Mick Rock Dies at 72

By David Schonauer   Wednesday November 24, 2021

Mick Rock, whose images of David Bowie, Lou Reed, Debbie Harry and more recent stars like Theophilus London and Snoop Dogg made him one of rock and pop’s best known photographers, died on November 18 at a hospital in Staten Island, reports The New York Times. He was 72. Rock was most noted for capturing the stars of the flamboyant 1970s. Among his memorable album covers: the bleached-out shot of Lou Reed on “Transformer” (1972) and the image of the members of Queen on “Queen II” (1974).
