Exhibitions: How Imogen Cunningham Changed Photography

Imogen Cunningham “never hesitated to experiment, even if it meant sailing against the wind as a female photographer in a male-dominated industry,” notes Crosscut on the occasion of an expansive Cunningham retrospective at the Seattle Art Museum (through Feb. 6, 2022). Originally scheduled to open at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles but premiering in Seattle due to a pandemic planning shakeup, the show is the first exhibition of Cunningham’s photographs in the United States in more than 35 years.
