Books: How Andy Grundberg Tracked the Rise of Photography as Art

We recently took note of critic Andy Grundberg’s How Photography Became Contemporary Art: Inside an Artistic Revolution From Pop to the Digital Age, which tracks the rise of the medium. Now The Washington Post looks more closely at the book and the history of photography as an art. “Grundberg takes readers through the culture wars of the 1990s — from the appropriation of pornography in Robert Mapplethorpe’s work to the debates about originality and commercialism that have peppered photographic practice over the last 20 years,” notes The Post.
