Exhibitions: William Christenberry As Multifaceted Artist

William Christenberry, a pioneer of color photography, began using the medium to document the landscapes of Hale County, Alabama, so he could replicate them in his studio through paintings and drawings, notes Popular Photography. “First and foremost Christenberry was a painter,” says Richard McCabe, photography curator of the Ogden Museum in New Orleans, where the exhibition “Memory Is a Strange Bell: The Art of William Christenberry" is on view through March 1, 2020.
