Honor Roll: Winners of 10th Annual Audubon Photo Awards

By David Schonauer   Friday July 19, 2019

Photographer Kathrin Swoboda has won the grand prize in the 2019 Audubon Photography Contest for her image of a red-winged blackbird singing on a cold morning, the bird’s breath leaving “smoke rings” in the frigid air. “This particular bird was very vociferous,” notes Swoboda. “I looked to set it against the dark background of the forest, shooting to the east as the sun rose over the trees, backlighting the vapor.” The 2019 winners were selected from over 2,253 entrants who submitted from all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces.
